iM4U 2015 : The Day

The programme ran smoothly.
I arrived at the site at 7am. I was running here and there because that's how a paranoid project manager should be. lol.

The event was officiated by the Hon Minister. We provide free health check up services including pap smear, healthy lifestyle exhibition, talk on entrepreneurship, interactive booths on entrepreneurship, fun dance by my colleague, a Zumba trainer, FREE MARKET (the coolest of all!), futsal tournament, sukaneka, pertandingan menyumpit, interesting demonstration by Fixie Family using *duh* fixie and bar street workout (second coolest).
Items for the Free Market
Free basic check up. The Pap Smear was performed in the nearby Klinik 1Malaysia
Bar street workout
The event was a success.
I went home and sleep. It was an exhausting two months preparation.

I wish all the best for the next year's team :)
Oh BTW, our programme was captured in today's newspaper.

iM4u 2015 : The Prep

I have a very good team this year.
I was away for 3 weeks attending courses and my assistants managed to complete all important tasks. I am no longer a micromanager :)
Two days before, I was struggling with the speech for the Minister, brief for the Deputy Minister and some small scale designs for money envelopes and charity bags.

In the afternoon before the day, I went to the Minister's house to brief his spouse on the programme. Then we went straight to the site. The tents were up, hampers were ready, all items for Free Market has been carefully transported to the site and I manage to finished the media statement (the best PRO was in my room to invite the media at the very last minutes) as well as MC script before I headed home at 8.30pm.
I have a very good sleep that night knowing everthing is ready for the big day tomorrow :)

1M4U 2014 : The preparation

I am the project leader for the Greening of the Urbanscape for 1M4U held in June. Click here for the previous post. For kids, we have organised a Green Ambassador programme. Gonna talk about that in separate post.

Banner / bunting design
I worked closely with the graphic designer on the banner and bunting designs. Honestly I want to do it myself but I didnt have the time. I am a micromanager and I am trying my best to change slowly. I ran here and there to get the approval for the designs and once I have obtained the approval, I ran to the printing shop to get it printed. It took 24 hours to complete.

Button badges
I designed a button badge for the kids, to make them PROUD to be our Green Ambassador. I emailed design to my friend, Tengku Azam, who has a printing company and the badges completed the next morning. I picked them up at 9pm.

Prizes
On weekend prior to the event, me and my committee went out separately to buy some items for our programme. I am in-charge for prizes for Green Ambassador's drawing and colouring competitions. I bought educational Illusion Science sets and story books for main prize winners and all participants will receive a magic colour sets.

Gardening sets
My committee, Eylia went to IKEA to buy the sets. There was a bit of miscommunication on the figure and she agreed to turned back. I owed her big time. We have chosen the CUTEST gardening set for the Green Ambassadors! I WANT ONE!!
We packed the gardening set together with latex gloves and face towel for each kids.

Souvenirs
We gave a token of appreciation to other agencies. My friend have extra goodie bags for kids from her previous charity event and she decided to distribute them during this event. Thank you.

Competition areas
I printed labels for both competitions. It was held at my office's lobby. There were two sofa sets at the lobby but the handsome logistic team managed to transform the area overnight.
The team worked hard to prepare the tools and three event areas for my program. Thank you! I went back at 10pm on the night before the event to make sure everything is in place for tomorrow :)

Boxes
I came extra early on THE day with 6 kids. They helped me to bring down 20 empty boxes and prepare the venue for herb planting programme for Green Ambassadors. Great job!
I am grateful for all contribution and assistance I received from everybody to make this event a success. Alhamdulillah.

The Kids : 1M4U Charity Event @ Sekendi Orphanage

Our kids were having fun at the orphanage. They met new friends, they learned new things, involved in motivational games and art & craft activities. I let them run everywhere for the whole day.

Nabil is listening to the motivational talk.
After the talk, they have motivational games.
After they found out that Nazreen is only 6 years old and probably not being able to participate in the next motivational games that involved critical thinking and a bit of math, he was sent to the art and craft activities. lol.
(Left) Baby Nazmi was sick. I have no choice but to bring him along. (Right) Nazreen and Nazran after being lectured by their dad about how fortunate they are as to compare with the orphans (after they bugged us non-stop, asking for ice-cream). Insaf 10 minit.
This is Nazran, after he threw up. He was quite a celebrity there.
See what I am talking about? Everybody enjoy rubbing his tummy.
*wink*

The Day : 1M4U Charity Event @ Sekendi Orphanage

The event on 21 September 2013 went well. These are some of the photos captured by my husband, the official photographer for the event.

If you wish to visit Rumah Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Sekendi, these are the coordinates:
This is the entrance.
Opening ceremony. The moment I saw these three key person smile, I knew I mustve done something (or everything) right ;p They are Datin Wan Rahimi Salleh, Tuan Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Member of Parliament of Sabak Bernam) and Ustaz Halimi Hayat, the Principal of the Sekendi Orphanage.
We sang four patriotic songs together. (Look for Nabil, Nazreen and Ms Square Face)
Talk by a nutritionist on healthy food.
Art and craft session for kids below 9 years old.
One of the telematch games - drinking straws construction.
 Motivational games. Notice Nabil there?
It was a successful event.

Early preparation : 1M4U Charity Event @ Sekendi Orphanage

More info on this program (here) and (here).

Friday afternoon
My family departed for Sabak Bernam on Friday. I have to be there early since Kuala Lumpur is 2 hours away and the programme will start at 8.30am the next day. There are still a lot preparation to be made in Sabak Bernam. Since none of my committee members can stay for a night in Sabak Bernam (Saturday = Family day) so I went there alone, against all odds. I checked in at a resort, 10 minutes away from the orphanage.
Kids were having their lunch in the car

I have scheduled a coaster to send all the boxes, rice and all donated materials to Sabak Bernam on Friday evening. I got help from my colleagues to load everything into the coaster at the office and I have arranged for the orphans to unload everything into the storage area at the orphanage. Alhamdulillah.
Nabil's new friend, Iwan

Saturday morning
I went to the orphanage early in the morning. The PA system guys was already there. I showed them the area and they started to do their work.
Shortly after, the caterer arrived with breakfast. I showed him where he supposed to place the banquet tables and he started to do his thing.
The psychology officer who is in charge for the motivational activities arrived and he helped me with the banner. Someone else supposed to do it but he havent arrived. I cant wait even for one more minute. It has to go up immediately before people start coming!
I started to arrange the chairs for the health talk in the library. I got help from the orphans to wipe the dust off the chairs. They seemed so happy to be involved :)
Once everything is in place, I performed a soundcheck. It went well.

I went back to the resort to fetch my family.

Countdown : 1M4U Charity Event @ Sekendi Orphanage

1 more day. Minus today.
Word-uttered-most of the day: Alhamdulillah.

The goodie bags for the children, low income families and single mothers are ready! Thanks to Nora and the rest of her team!
I am attending a Mind Mapping Course the whole day today (and yesterday) and I have to run in and out for these....

Updates today:

Health examination programme was cancelled.
I called up the Head Bureau of Health and ask them to get anyone to talk on food / nutrition / etc.
I also arranged with an Ustaz for a talk on Family Development, should we failed to get a speaker on healthy food at the last minute.
And we manage to get a NUTRITIONIST in one hour. Alhamdulillah.

The coaster and van are not enough for the trip to Sabak Bernam.
More than 40 people registered and we only have enough seat for 30 pax.
I went to negotiate with the team of climbers (they booked the bus to Genting Highland on the same day for their climbing activity) and they agreed to use the coaster. We get the bus and a van. And one car. Enough for 50 people. Alhamdulillah.

The wording on the banner is wrong. (Note : It was agreed by everyone before it was printed).
I called up a printing centre and manage to get them to print the new one to be collected tomorrow and it costs me 50% lesser than the first banner.
I manage to talk to the President and she agreed to use the old banner. Alhamdulillah.

I was informed that we have no in-house mobile PA system. We need to rent it somewhere else. I was given a contact number for a company and they charged us quite high. After a few minutes negotiating, I manage to get it at a cheaper price. Within our budget. Alhamdulillah.

The donation (in cash and goods) still flowing in, non-stop. Thank you all. Alhamdulillah.

I truly believe Allah will show us the way if we are doing good deeds.

Promo : 1M4U Charity Event @ Sekendi Orphanage

I am organising a charity event at Sekendi Orphanage, Sabak Bernam, this weekend, under the 1M4U fund. I already have many things on my plate but the team trusted me with this big programme, so why not?

My hardworking colleagues, Ms Nora and Ms Aini spent their morning, till evening, buying goods for the orphans, low income families and single mothers. Thank you so much. We also thankful for non-stop donation of books, coloured pencils and cash for the underprivileged.
The event will be held on 21 Sept 2013. Anyone who wish to contribute cash for them (you can choose to donate to the orphanage - but not all kids are orphan - or you could choose to donate to low income families/single mother), you can transfer it to my account and I will make sure it will reach them. InsyaAllah.

What you give, you will get back.

UNICEF : Somalian babies and kids

I cant sleep at night without thinking about starving babies and children in Somalia. My heart sank when I saw their super-skinny photos in the news.

NAIROBI, 29 July 2011 - With an estimated 1.25 million children across Southern Somalia in urgent need of life saving interventions and 640,000 acutely malnourished, UNICEF called for all actors to make saving children's lives the top priority and to urgently support all efforts to reach children in need.

You could make an online donation using credit card via UNICEF Malaysia website by clicking at the image below in the website. I couldnt create a link to this image that can direct you to the secure online payment window. Maybe because it is secured. I dont know. Pls help them.

I have a lot to give : DESIGN 21 + UNESCO

(Fakri email me asking for updates)
One and only thing that keeps me occupied during lunch hour is Design 21. It is a social [DESIGN] network. Unlike any other social networks that people solely joined for networking *duh*, Design 21 is a social design network. We strongly believe social change can happen through design.

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a partner of Design 21, together with Fellisimo. Being a social design network that has been endorsed by the UN for quite sometimes makes me truly confident that my effort and time spent for Design 21 everyday, worth it....

I learned a lot from others (I met a couple of good industrial designers there *wink*). That's the main reason WHY i haven't post anything for a while :o) LOL. Every time I logged in, I will be busy getting inspired.. until 2.00pm. Well... I will participate more in the future.

So, come on my designer friends, join Design 21! And start designing for a cause! We can make a difference.

I have a lot to give : UNICEF

I've been involved with UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) for quite sometimes. (Being a mother of three, it really means A LOT to help unfortunate kids around the world).

Couple of months back I received a certificate of appreciation from them. Not to mention endless letter from Mr Youssouf himself telling me how my contribution had helped a 10 yo girl - who works as a brick breaker since she was 8 - go to school and learn to count. She is now able to tell when her boss (intentionally) miscalculate the brick, so he can pay her lower. *jahat..jahat*

Last time there were a group of celebrity came and join our activity. I didnt know him but since everyone snap their photo like crazy, so, here it is... I manage to get a few. Just to show it to my hubby and ask him, "Siapakah orang-orang ini?"
