Informative Stairwell Competition : The before

My office held an Informative Stairwell Competition last year. Each section need to beautify their stairwell and make it informative to encourage people to opt for the stair. I am always a fan of Active Design. This project quietly encourage us to make healthier choices.

I was selected to be the project leader. I googled some images and took photographs of other floors which has painting works in progress (*strategy* start late and look for inspiration) and presented it in the meeting. These are some designs-in-progress by other sections:
My section agreed to have a minimalist approach, simple, not too colourful as kindergarten's wall and have relevant information about our division (the important point of this competition is - the information). They even agreed with the idea of painting the floor with dark colour since the tiles were badly stained. No scrubbing work could take the 30 years old stain off the old tiles. No point of having interesting wall, but dirty floor. Gitu konsepnya.
So, these are the BEFORE and my quick rendering during the discussion, taking into consideration their ideas. Once we FINALLY agreed on the colour scheme, I can feel the excitement across the meeting room!
Well, I think I was the only one worried about the whole thing because the final design involves specialty paints. Epoxy for the floor and glow-in-the-dark for the edge of the tread. (the staircase is black, so we plan to apply glow-in-the-dark paint on the tread edge so no one will miss the step during emergency). Great idea, huh?

Then I went paint-hunting.

I won : Independence Day Quiz

I have participated in an online quiz in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day in August. I didnt hope to win. I just did it for fun, as usual. And I have totally forgot about it until yesterday - when I was informed that I am the first runner up and was requested to attend the prize-giving ceremony this morning.

Just now, I have received the hamper from the Minister.

Photoshoot at FRIM

This morning, we went to Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) with Nabil right after attending Canteen Day at his school. We are participating in a photography competition by FRIM - which ends tomorrow. The lady at the registration counter was so surprised since everyone went there today to submit their entries, but we went there to obtain the free permit (to take photos) and to collect the entry forms (read = we were just started).
I assured her that we will submit it on time tomorrow. We are just doing this for fun - as usual - because we know a lot of professional photographers are participating.

Nabil was the most excited. He loves photography, he loves nature, he loves forest. Just like us. We gave him a DLSR and let him capture anything he wants.
We went home later in the evening (after the photoshoot at FRIM, we attended a birthday party in Shah Alam). We spent some time to choose the best photos and rush to the photo shop to have them printed. We have just finished pasting all photos (5 each) on the mounting boards and burned the CDs.

My entries:

My husband's entries:
I need a rest. Exploring a forest while you are 5 months pregnant is not a good idea. It is freakin tiring.

THANK YOU all.

On Photojournalism Competition

Me and my husband spent a few days during Raya holiday, looking around the true meaning of the theme "Changing Cities, Building Opportunites" around Kuala Lumpur, specifically in Lebuh Ampang and Bukit Bintang. It is the theme for a Photojournalism Competition for World Habitat Day 2012. We planned to submit a few entries, for fun. Just to make the secretariat happy. LOL.

We move around KL on motorcycle, so it is easier for us to stop and capture photos from awkward angles, road side, traffic light and bus stop.
This is the cameraman in action.
The cameraman didnt capture my photo in action, to prove that I was also working hard (more of stare at the buildings and think HARD about the best concept for our presentation boards).

It is nice to spend time together doing unusual stuff once in a while, although we were soaking wet on the way back due to a heavy downpour, carrying thick stack of books everywhere for a week, went through sleepless nights to agree on the concept and to actually finish the boards, facing problem at the printing shop and lots more. It was all started FOR FUN but it become more serious towards the end. LOL.
It would be nicer if one of us win the contest.

My entry. I printed it on A4 paper for proof-read before we headed to printing shop.
My husband's entry. Love his concept. Love his presentation.

My paper clips

A conversation last week at Ali Maju Bistro. During lunch hour.

This guy : Hey, what happened to your paper clip?

Me : What paper clip?

This guy : YOUR paper clip…. (stressing on YOUR)

Me : My ...paper ...clips... are... fine… (It just happened that I had transferred all paper clips inside a purple smiggle steel box before lunch, so, it should be fine, right?) err... why?

This guy : Fine? You win?

Me : Huh?

..... (awkward silence) .....

I felt stupid not knowing what else to say. And I think he felt stupid too.. maybe he thought he was asking the question to the wrong person.

SUDDENLY...

Me : OHHHH!!!!! That paper clip!!!! OMG that was so long ago! I totally forgot about that already.

(Note : Related entry here)

This guy : So, you win?

Me : Yes and No.

In total, me and my partner (he was my junior in KAED), Shahnizam received health products hampers, 3 trophies, certificates, 4 spa vouchers worth RM380 each and 4 tickets for whitewater rafting in Perak. Why 4 everything? Because the maximum number for member per group is four. But we determined to proceed with only TWO.

Well, you guessed it right, whitewater rafting tickets goes to my partner and I got 4 spa vouchers! Go paper clips!

I need higher viewership for my competition entries!

Guys, pls view these a few times…. I need the highest viewership to win the Special Award!! Anyway, for those of you who didn’t know about this…. Here you go : I joined an Innovation Challenge. We are required to produce a 3-mins video to show the best solution based on the challenge statement - “Make your organization/workplace greener by using paper clip in your solution”.

Pls view EACH VIDEO FIFTY TIMES (50x) :

Green Pledge

Green Building

Red Paper Clip

Pls pls pls.

Important note : THE VIDS ARE KINDA FUNNY, really. WE MADE THESE IN A FEW DAYS – brainstorming, storyboard, casting, shooting, editing, model-making, etc. Eh, only a few hours after office je actually. We have something else in our mind but it turn out to be different due to time constraint. Huhu.. but, as long as my staffs were having a good time, it worth it….walaupun terasa malu terlibat secara direct dan menghadapi risiko menjadi bahan lawak selama setahun di rumah.

Remember, 50x ye.

Thanks! *lol*

I won! I won!

No, it is not the UNESCO's Culture Count poster competition. It is a Logo Design Competition for our Corporate Club. It was held since February until 15 March 2010. The public voting for the logo and club's motto was held on the 19th.

This is my winning design. I designed this in two minutes while waiting for a document file to be transferred to my thumbdrive.
Next thing I know, I turned on my laptop and email the design to the committee. Unplanned.

The winning Motto is - 1 Korporat, 1 Keluarga by Miss Irane Wiguna Idral.

KUDOS to all Corporate Club committee member for a smooth public voting and last public speaking session! With that, I pass the baton to Miss Kristin for the Emcee speech recitation session everyday.

PS : I was the coordinator for Public Speaking Session for the Corporate Club for the past 3 months. I called up two person every morning to talk on anything, for 3 minutes. Oh yes, they hated me. haha.

UNESCO poster competition - I need popularity votes!!!!

Remember my post about Design 21?

There was a competition last time for one of UNESCO's programme : 2010, International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures. I joined the competition. You know I can't say NO to any design competition....

This is the design brief : Participants of the competition are invited to express their vision and understanding of the “Rapprochement of Cultures” by designing posters that creatively emphasize the importance of exchange and dialogue among and between cultures in ensuring social cohesion and harmonious coexistence. Entrants must keep in mind the international nature of UNESCO and the celebration of the Year and avoid any reference to a particular country, region, culture or religion. (owh, you will see the element A LOT).

Public voting for this competition is now open until 22nd March 2010. There will be a prize for popular poster. However, the winner will be chosen by professional judges. You can vote for me. But you need to register first. The placement of the poster is constantly changing to give equal chance for every entry to be viewed. So, at 10am, my poster might be at page 20. But, i was told at 10.43am, mine was at page 33 and at 11.10am, it moved to page 31. I dont know where it will be next. So, KEEP SEARCHING!!!

All you need to do is search for my poster below and click [VOTE]. THANK YOU!!!

*Thanks Hazwani for being the second person to vote for me :o) And thanks Cik Ida Ilyana for spending a very LOOOOOONG time looking for my design among other 1186 entries. And finally be able to click [vote] *wink*

I done my part. If it wasn't meant for me (the prize), then it is OKAY..

Drawing Competition : ZOO

We had a drawing competition last Saturday (251008). There were six of us, - my eldest sister NO, my brother MI, me, my nephew HAZIQ, my niece SARAH and my son NABIL. My dad was the judge for this competition, carrying the theme ZOO. My mom was only a supporter. These are the entries (some of them are VERY ABSTRACT) and the last one is *ehem* the winning entry :o) - (it was actually disqualified because I finished it one hour after everybody completed theirs) - but win anyway...
